Why isn't the parent div stretching alongside its child divs?

I am currently working on creating a responsive layout, but I am struggling to figure out how to make the "#content" div stretch with its child div when there is more content than expected...

Forget what I said earlier, I finally figured it out! The issue was caused by the #mainContentArea using position absolute. Once I removed that and added overflow hidden to #content, everything started working perfectly...
