What measures can I take to prevent images from being easily saved from my website?

Have you noticed that background images cannot be saved by simply long pressing or right clicking on them? In order to save the picture to your hard disk, you'll need to save the entire webpage. Is there a way to make a picture harder to save, such as a background image on a webpage?

Answer №1

Once the image has been displayed on the user's browser, there is no way to prevent them from saving it.

Even if you try to use Javascript controls to block saving the image, they can easily be bypassed by experienced users.

Savvy tech users can simply take a screenshot or access the image from the browser cache.

In my opinion, attempting to restrict users from saving images is ultimately futile.

However, if you still wish to implement these controls, you can find more information in this thread: Protect image download

Answer №2

While it may seem impossible to completely stop a user from saving a photo they can view, there are ways to make it more challenging for them.

One tactic used by Instagram's web viewer is placing a transparent layer over the image to block right-click actions. This simple solution can deter novice users from easily saving the image.

Alternatively, you could take more extreme measures like disabling all right-click functions altogether. However, this approach may negatively impact user experience and still not prevent determined individuals from saving the image.

For a balance between protection and usability, using a transparent layer over the image may be the most effective option to discourage casual saving attempts.

Answer №3

It seems that accessing the image directly from the server is not possible, as it is being served to the browser:

I decided to post this as a response rather than a comment due to the inclusion of the image. If this is not appropriate, I can delete this response.
