What is the reason .navbar-dark is not functioning in Bootstrap v5.2?

I am puzzled by the fact that navbar-dark is not changing the text color in the nav. I'm not sure why this is happening. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure to adhere to the HTML structure outlined in Bootstrap 5 by adding the navbar-brand class to your text. For more information, you can refer to the documentation here

<!doctype html>
<html lang="en">
  <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8>
    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">

  </head>
  <body>
    <nav class="navbar navbar-dark bg-dark">
      <span  class="navbar-brand">Something</span>

   </nav>
