What is the best way to extend a div to fill the full width of a webpage?

I'm struggling to align a div perfectly with the left, right, and top edges of the page. Despite trying various solutions suggested by others, I just can't seem to get it right! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Answer №1

It seems like you may have forgotten to remove the margin on the <body> element.

body {
  margin: 0;
}

Alternatively, the first element inside the <div> may have some margin applied to it.

By default, your widths will be set to auto, giving the appearance of 100% width. This allows you to add padding and margins without any issues if you are utilizing the default box model.
