What is the best way to emphasize the color in a <ul> when one of its children is clicked

I have a variety of links listed on the left side of my website. Here is an example:

  • home
  • categories
  • aboutus
  • contactus

When I click on "home" in the list, the page submits and then loads. After loading, I want the "home" link to be highlighted, similar to how other clicked links are selected.

Is there a way to achieve this?

Answer №1

Typically, I utilize two main strategies:

  1. Implementing an .active class on the current item's page to indicate its status, such as having the home link marked with the .active class when on the home page;
  2. Assigning specific classes to each item (.home for the home link, .contact for the contact link, etc.) and applying a unique id or class to the body of each page (#home for the home page, etc.). This allows for individual styling of links on different pages using selectors like
    #home .home, #contact .contact {}
    , and so on.
