What is the best way to customize the small square area found between the vertical and horizontal scrollbars?

Please take a look at the images provided below:

Whenever both vertical and horizontal scrollbars intersect, it results in a square space. This phenomenon occurs not just within the browser window but also in elements with overflow.

In my current project, the color of this square space inadvertently creates a stark contrast that may distract users. What techniques can I implement to style it so that it matches my background color or even better, appears "transparent"?

Answer №1

Sorry for jumping in a bit late, but just wanted to share some information that might be helpful to others who come across this...

Interestingly enough, that particular element has its very own designated class:

::-webkit-scrollbar-corner

By setting the background-color to transparent, you can achieve an empty corner effect. Alternatively, a more seamless approach would involve matching the background-color to that of ::-webkit-scrollbar for a smoother transition between the two scrollbars.

Answer №2

Feel free to experiment with this snippet of CSS code:

::-webkit-scrollbar
{
    width: 0px;
}
::-webkit-scrollbar-track-piece
{
    background-coor: transparent;
}
