What is the best way to achieve complete transparency for an input element?

Is there a way to make the input element completely see-through, allowing the body background image to show through instead of the parent's background color?
Sample HTML code:

body{
    background-image:url("https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/35/Neckertal_20150527-6384.jpg");
}

#wrapper{
    background-color: white;
    height: 100px;
}
<html lang="en">
    <head>
        <meta charset="UTF-8">
        <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0">
        <title>Document</title>

    </head>
    <body>
        <div id="wrapper">
            <input type="text">
        </div>
    </body>
</html>

Answer №1

To incorporate CSS, use the following code:

#container > input {
     background-color: rgba(0,0,0,0);
     border: 0;
}

If you desire to eliminate the border when focused, include this:

#container > input:focus {
     outline:none;
}

Answer №2

If you want to achieve this effect, you can follow these steps:

#container{
    background-color: lightgray;
    height: 150px;
}

#container > input
{
    background-color: transparent;
    border: 2px solid black;
}
<html lang="en">
    <head>
        <meta charset="UTF-8">
        <title>My Page</title>
    </head>
    <body>
        <div id="container">
            <input type="text">
        </div>
    </body>
</html>

A similar solution was shared a while back: create transparent input fields using CSS

Answer №3

It seems like you are looking to prevent a child element from inheriting its parent's background color.

The best way to achieve this is by overriding the style.

You can try the following code:

input{
        background-image:url("image.jpg");
        border: none;
    }

If this doesn't work for you, another option is to select a specific part of the background image to display as the input field's background.
