What are the steps for editing and preserving a logo with an 8-bit indexed color palette?

After purchasing a RE/MAX franchise, I now need to make edits to the official logo found on remax.com using Adobe Photoshop.

However, I have encountered a problem when trying to edit their logo in Photoshop. When I open their PNG logo, the layer appears distorted as the image is in 8-bit indexed color format:

The logo should have a transparent background like the one displayed on remax.com.

Could you please provide guidance on how to properly edit this logo?

Answer №1

To adjust the image mode and bit depth, simply navigate to the Image > Mode menu within Photoshop. For example, to convert to RGB, select Image > Mode > RGB Colour.

Alternatively, if you have proper authorization and do not require resizing, you may extract the image from the homepage's sprite directly.
