Ways to give preference to custom css instead of the default Angular-material css

The search label is originally padded to the left by Angular-material.min.css with a value of padding-left: 3px.

My attempt to customize the padding to the right in my custom.less file has not overridden the default CSS from Angular-material.min.css.

Answer №1

Make sure to load your CSS files in the correct order for proper styling.

HTML

<head>
  <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="main.css">
  <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="custom.css">
</head>

It's important to remember that the C in CSS stands for Cascading. This means that styles defined later will take precedence over earlier ones.

Answer №2

Encountered a similar problem, check below for the resolution. In your angular.json configuration file, ensure that your custom style file is listed last within the styles array.

"styles":
  [
     "node_modules/bootstrap/dist/css/bootstrap.min.css",
     "src/custom-theme.scss"
  ],

Answer №3

Consider using !important in your CSS declaration:

margin-top: 15px !important;
