Ways to create a darker background in bootstrap

Is there a way to darken the background using Bootstrap? I came across this code, but I'm unsure how to modify the background or what CSS code needs to be added to my style.

The backdrop color in the modals.less file is being managed through CSS code provided below:

.modal-backdrop {
    position: fixed;
    top: 0;
    right: 0;
    bottom: 0;
    left: 0;
    z-index: 1040;
    background-color: #333;
}

If you want to darken the background, simply override the .modal-backdrop class in your own stylesheet and specify a different background color.

In the same less file, there is a class named .modal-backdrop .in which controls the opacity of the background.

.modal-backdrop.in {
    filter: alpha(opacity=50);
    opacity: .5;
}

You have the option to override this as well if you require a different level of opacity.
