Using the <blink> tag on Internet Explorer

Unfortunately, Internet Explorer does not support the <blink> tag or the text-decoration:blink; style in CSS.

Are there any alternative methods for creating blinking text in IE?

Answer №1

It's best to avoid excessive blinking as it can be irritating to people.

However, you can achieve this effect using JS/jQuery in the following way:

setInterval(jQuery('.blinking').toggle, 1500 );

This will alternate the visibility of any element with the 'blinking' class every 1.5 seconds.

To implement this in your HTML, use:

<span class="blinking">hello!</span>

Before implementing blinking text, carefully consider whether it is necessary!

If you need to grab a user's attention, instead of traditional blinking (where the text disappears part of the time), try changing the color, adding a blinking underline or border, or something similar.

The most important thing is to ensure that if something is visually distracting to the user, it remains readable and understandable.

Answer №2

If you're looking to add some blinking effects to your website, try out this code snippet:

$(document).ready(function () {
    setInterval("$('.blink').fadeOut().fadeIn();",1500);
});

Simply assign the class "blink" to an element like this:

<div class="blink">BLING BLING...</div>

Check out a live demo here.

Alternatively, you can use this code for a slightly different effect:

$(document).ready(function () {
    setInterval("$('.blink').fadeOut(150).fadeIn(150);",1000);
});
