Using CSS in Rails based on a certain condition

My project involves creating an app with a specific view. Within this view, I must check a condition and if it is met, I need to color a table row accordingly. While the simplest solution would be to modify the header within the view, I prefer to keep all styling information in CSS. How can I achieve this without altering the HTML structure?

Answer №1

To change the color of a specific row, you can simply modify it in the view instead of adjusting headers:

<tr class="<%= "blue" if condition_applies %>">
  <td>Your content</td>
</tr>

Alternatively:

<% if condition_applies %>
  <tr class="blue">
<% else %>
  <tr class="red">
<% end %>
  <td>Your content</td>
</tr>

Answer №2

utilities.rb

def determine_theme_for(user)
  if user.authenticated?
    'light'
  else
    'dark'
  end
end

profile.erb

- @users.each do |user|
  %div{class: determine_theme_for(user)}
