Tips for including a horizontal line beneath each heading in an HTML using just CSS

Is it possible to include a horizontal line following each heading without employing the <hr> tag? I am interested in accomplishing this solely within the parameters of the <style></style> tags.

Answer №1

To properly insert a line after a heading, it is best practice to utilize CSS instead of an <hr/> element. Keep in mind that H elements are block level elements (unless specified otherwise with inline styling or by using display: flex on the parent container), so the border-bottom will span the entire width of the container.

This styling can be applied individually to each h element, or collectively by combining all h elements into a single style declaration.

h1 {
  padding-bottom: 8px;
  margin-bottom: 8px;
  border-bottom: solid 1px #e1e1e1;
}
<h1>This is a heading</h1>

Answer №2

Another option is to implement:

h1::after{
    display: block;
    content: '';
    margin-top: 10px;
    border-bottom: 1px solid #000;
}
