The selection will remain hidden and attempting to make a choice will be ineffective

Received an HTML sample from another company () and now I am attempting to create a web form based on it (). Using the same scripts, the basic structure mirrors the sample closely. After meticulously comparing the code, I can't find any discrepancies. However, in Firebug, I noticed that the non-working select block doesn't trigger the custom_select function from script.js - but why?

Hoping someone can provide a solution or point out something I may have missed.

The code is different. It seems that on your page, two spans are missing from the div select. Your version:

<div class="select">
    <select name="anrede" id="anrede" required="" class="input" style=">
      <option value="0" selected="selected">please select</option>
      <option value="Mrs">Mrs</option>
      <option value="Mr">Mr</option>
    </select>
</div>

The correct version:

<div class="select">
    <select name="anrede" id="anrede" required="" class="input" style=">
      <option value="0" selected="selected">please choose</option>
      <option value="Mrs">Mrs</option>
      <option value="Mr">Mr</option>
    </select>
    <span class="select-icon"></span>
    <span class="select-box">please choose</span>
</div>

Adding those missing lines resolved the issue.

Here is what you currently have:

.js select {
    opacity: 0;
}

The gisa.css file contains the above CSS snippet, and the custom_select function replaces the hidden select with custom HTML elements.
