The index.html file is unable to read the main.css file specifically on Chrome (desktop) browsers

Currently, my website is being hosted by 000webhostapp.com. It seems to be functioning correctly in all browsers such as Mozilla, Opera, and on mobile devices, but there seems to be an issue specifically with desktop Chrome. After checking with the W3C validator, all paths and links appear to be correct. What could be causing this issue?

Answer №1

The culprit behind this issue is AdBlock, specifically the EasyList filter list that is automatically applied to AdBlock's filter sets.

Within this filter set, there is a rule that states: Block any resource with a URL that matches /adx, except for domains adx.uk.com or adx.wowfi.com.

/adx.$domain=~adx.uk.com|~adx.wowfi.com

In this specific case, it is matching a portion of your domain name: http://adx.000webhostapp.com/css/normalize.css

To identify all blocked resources, you can check the AdBlock tab in your browser's Developer Tools here.

How to resolve this?

The most effective solution is to contact the EasyList authors and notify them about the incorrectly blocked content. They recommend reaching out on their forum (no registration required).

Another approach is to host your resources (styles, scripts, images) on a different domain to avoid being filtered.

Alternatively, although not recommended, you could choose to ignore the issue or completely change your domain name.

Answer №2

After some investigation, I discovered that the issue may be related to adblock. I tested by turning off my adblock on Chrome, and the problem was resolved. It might be helpful to explore why adblock is preventing the CSS from loading, or consider adding a message prompting users to disable their adblock.
