The dropdown UL element loses its opacity in Internet Explorer

After creating a basic CSS dropdown menu, I encountered a strange issue when viewing it in IE.

In the screenshot provided, only the shadow is visible and the content inside the element appears to be transparent. I have not utilized transparency anywhere on the website and the element displays correctly in other browsers.

Answer №1

After some investigation, I have discovered the issue. It seems that applying a Microsoft gradient filter to an element causes it to hide any child elements that extend outside the boundaries of the div. Removing this code resolved the issue for me.

Interestingly, I also found that the Microsoft gradient filter prevents the border-radius property from functioning correctly in Internet Explorer.

The problematic code snippet:

filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient( startColorstr='#ffffff', endColorstr='#fafafa',GradientType=0 ); /* IE6-9 */
