The datepicker in Angular Material refuses to open when used within a modal dialog box

I successfully integrated an angular material 2 date-picker into a bootstrap modal form:

<div class="modal-dialog modal-lg">
  <div class="modal-content">
    <div class="modal-header">
      <h4 class="modal-title">{{title}}</h4>
    </div>
    <div class="modal-body">
        <div class="timeline-cal">
            <input class="date-field" [mdDatepicker]="picker" placeholder="Choose a date">
            <md-datepicker-toggle mdSuffix [for]="picker"></md-datepicker-toggle>
            <md-datepicker #picker></md-datepicker>
        </div>
        <div class="modal-footer">
            <button type="button" class="btn grey-btn pull-right"     (click)="cancel()">Cancel</button>
        </div>
    </div>
</div>

However, there is an issue where clicking the button opens the datepicker in the background instead of within the modal dialog. I attempted the following fix without success:

.mat-datepicker-content{    z-index: 1200}

Answer №1

experiment,

::ng-deep .cdk-overlay-container {
  z-index: 1200 !important;
}

Alternatively

/deep/ .cdk-overlay-container {
  z-index: 1200 !important;
}

Answer №2

In my experience, the following solution proved to be effective:

::ng-deep .cdk-overlay-container {
    position: fixed !important;
    z-index: 100000 !important; /* adjust value as needed */
}

Ensure that you assign a specific position for the z-index to work properly.

Keep in mind that z-index functions only with elements that have a specified position (position:absolute, position:relative, or position:fixed). Learn more about CSS z-index @ W3Schools

Answer №3

Don't forget to include the following code snippet in your component's HTML file:

<style>
  ::ng-deep .cdk-overlay-container {
    z-index: 2000;
</style>

By adding this code, you should see a resolution to the problem. Keep your fingers crossed!
