The Bootstrap drop-down feature refuses to open

I seem to be having trouble with a basic issue. I used the standard template from the bootstrap website, but for some reason, when I click on the dropdown menu in the navbar, it's not opening. Can someone help me figure out what's going wrong?

<nav class="navbar navbar-expand-md navbar-light bg-light fixed-top">
  <a
    class="navbar-brand"
    routerLinkActive="active current"
    routerLink="/">
    Home
  </a>
  <button class="navbar-toggler" type="button" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbarsExampleDefault" aria-controls="navbarsExampleDefault" aria-expanded="false" aria-label="Toggle navigation">
    <span class="navbar-toggler-icon"></span>
  </button>

  <div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbarsExampleDefault">
    <ul class="navbar-nav mr-auto">
      <li class="nav-item active">
        <a
          class="nav-link"
          routerLinkActive="active current"
          routerLink="/shopping-cart">
          Shopping Cart
          <span
            class="caret">
          </span>
        </a>
      </li>
      <li class="nav-item dropdown">
        <a class="nav-link dropdown-toggle" href="#" id="dropdown01" data-toggle="dropdown" aria-haspopup="true" aria-expanded="false">User</a>
        <div class="dropdown-menu" aria-labelledby="dropdown01">
          <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">My orders</a>
          <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Manage Orders</a>
          <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Manage Products</a>
          <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Log Out</a>
        </div>
      </li>
    </ul>
    <form class="form-inline my-2 my-lg-0">
      <input class="form-control mr-sm-2" type="text" placeholder="Search" aria-label="Search">
      <button class="btn btn-outline-success my-2 my-sm-0" type="submit">Search</button>
    </form>
  </div>
</nav>

The issue may be caused by missing script tags that are essential for functionality. According to information on Bootstrap's website, JavaScript is required for many components to work properly.

It is important to note that several components rely on JavaScript for operation.

Additionally, there is a starter template available for the navbar component you are attempting to implement.

As mentioned by GTown-Coder, it is important to include the jquery scripts and ensure Bootstrap is included...

There are two methods to do this. I personally prefer the following approach for its simplicity.

In your index.html file, within the header (or at the end of the body if necessary), you need to insert the 4 lines from Bootstrap (LINK [Link to Bootstrap 4 download page])

Once you have done this, your Dropdown should start working.

Another option is to install bootstrap, jquery, tether, popperjs via npm (LINK) and then add the script paths to .angular-cli.json - but be cautious as there could be missing dependencies complicating the process.
