Switching List Icons when Hovering over Dropdown

Newbie Inquiry: I am working on a dropdown list featuring 10 items, each with black icons aligned to the right. I want to switch these icons to white when hovering over them.

Appreciate any tips you may have! Thanks in advance!

Answer №1

To optimize your website's performance, consider using sprites to combine multiple icons into a single image. This method involves stacking the individual icons on top of each other in a new image file, allowing for faster loading times and eliminating any blinking or flashing that may occur when hovering over an icon. Here's an example using a Home icon:

li {
    width: 32px;
    height: 32px;
    display: block;
    background-position: top;
}
li:hover {
    background-position: bottom;
}
li.home {
    background-image: url("images/home-icon.png");
}

By creating sprite images like this, you can streamline your website's design and improve user experience without sacrificing quality.

Answer №2

To style the list items with a circular bullet point, apply the CSS property list-style:circle to the li elements.
