Struggling to position search form to the right side of an <li> element

I'm having trouble aligning my search bar to the right side of the navigation menu items.

HTML:

<body>
    <div id="navbox">
        <nav id="nav">
            <ul id="nav">
                <li><a href="#">Home</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">History</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Leaders</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Youth</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Links</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Contact</a></li>
                <li>
                    <form method="get" action="/search" id="search">
                        <input name="q" type="text" size="40" placeholder="Search..." />
                    </form>
                </li>
            </ul>
        </nav>
    </div>
</body>

CSS:

form {
padding-left: 15px;
margin: 0;
}

Can you suggest a way to achieve this alignment?

Answer №1

Using display:inline-block is the solution for your issue.</p>

<pre><code>ul#nav li {
  display:inline-block
}

Answer №2

Absolutely, you have the ability to easily incorporate this line into your CSS:

nav, ul, li {display:inline-block}

This will definitely do the trick. Just a friendly reminder: avoid duplicating IDs and opt for classes whenever feasible (which is almost always).

If you need further clarification, feel free to check out this fiddle where you can experiment by adding paddings, margins, or any other styles to observe its behavior.
