Sequence of loading unique CSS skin for MediaWiki

Running a MediaWiki site with a personalized skin, I've noticed that the CSS code from my custom skin is being overshadowed by the default MediaWiki CSS.

Is there a way to modify the sequence in which the CSS code is loaded?

Answer №1

It seems tricky to load your CSS after the MediaWiki styles using the primary resource loader via load.php. One solution that worked for me is adding a "group" field with the value of "site" in your skin.json or extension.json.

In your file, include something like this:

{
    "name": "MySkin",
    ...
    "ResourceModules": {
        "ext.MySkin.styles": {
            "styles": [
                "my-skin.css"
            ],
            "group": "site"
        },
        "ext.MySkin.js": {
            "scripts": [
                "my-skin.js"
            ]
        }
    },
    ...
}

Refer to the documentation for $wgResourceModules and Group definitions for more information.

MediaWiki will load your extension/skin styles as a second page request, which may not be optimized but will achieve the desired outcome of overwriting previous values within the skin.
