Seeking assistance with CSS for hover element - struggling to stretch it across the entire width of the page

Looking for some expert advice in CSS. Visit the link below:

When you hover over the years (2008, 2009, 2010, etc.) at the top middle of the page, you'll see an orange bar extending from the top to the bottom. I'm trying to achieve the same effect on the left side (month and day), but so far, it's been a challenge.

The issue arises when I attempt to get the orange hover bar to extend off the left side of the screen for both #dayleft and #monthleft. It reaches all the way to the right margin, but not the left. The problem seems to be with the margin-left properties: 15px; for #monthleft and 80px; for #dayleft. However, removing them is not an option as they are necessary for the letter spacing.

Any suggestions or tips?

Answer №1

#monthleft ul li a:hover {
   margin-left: -20px;
   width: 110%;
   text-indent: 20px;
}

I found that adding this code to my hover effect worked perfectly in resolving the issue, especially when using firebug.

Make sure to apply a similar approach to your #dayleft component, making necessary adjustments to the margin-left and text-indent values accordingly.

UPDATE: The following code snippet is effective for #dayleft as well

#dayleft ul li a:hover {
   margin-left: -110px;
   width: 110%;
   text-indent: 110px;
}
