Occupying the entire width of a screen

Struggling to tidy up a website I'm working on for a client. I've spent countless hours trying to solve this issue! With my limited knowledge, I could really use some help with the code. The main challenge is making the top section of the site (originally two images, now experimenting with background images and CSS) fill the width of the browser no matter its size. Any suggestions on how to achieve this?

Also, is there a way to make text fill 100% width of the box regardless of its size?

I would greatly appreciate any assistance in moving forward with this project! The goal is to have everything neatly aligned and inline. In some browsers/screens it looks good, but in others, it seems to spread out with excessive white space.

Answer №1

I am unsure of your reference to the word "text", and I am uncertain if this information will be beneficial to you, but it is important to note that any block level container will automatically have a width of 100%:

<div style="background-color: red">I occupy the full width!</div>

If you encounter a situation where a span element does not reach 100% width, simply wrap it in a div and apply the background properties to the div instead.

<div style="background-image: ....">
 <span>
   Although I may not be 100% wide, my surrounding div is,
   ensuring seamless visual integration!
 </span>
</div>

Answer №2

Take out the "width" attribute from the following elements:

< TD width="48%">...< /TD> < TD width="52%">...< /TD>
