Obscure silhouette enveloping the text enclosure

I'm a beginner in CSS and I need to create a text box like this:

My supervisor asked for a shadow effect around the box when clicked. How can I accomplish this?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Answer №1

You have the option to apply styles to an element when it is in focus using the :focus pseudo selector.

.input-field:focus{
      box-shadow: 3px 3px 4px rgba(0,0,0,.5);
    }
<input class="input-field" />

Answer №2

To create a text box, you can use the <input> HTML element.

<input type="text" name="Business Name">

Your browser will automatically display a shadow effect with the highlight color specified by your computer settings.

The input element offers various attributes and input types which are detailed in the MDN documentation: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/input.

If you prefer to have the label "Business Name" appear above your text box, it's recommended to use a label element:

<label for="business-name">Business Name</label>
<input type="text" id="business-name">

Ensure that the 'for' attribute of the label matches the 'id' attribute of the input element to establish the connection between them.

Answer №3

To create a similar effect, you can utilize the :focus pseudo-class along with the box-shadow attribute in CSS. Below is an example of how you can achieve this:

input:focus {
      box-shadow: 0 0 5px #acdfea;
    }
<input class="input" />

You can adjust the color and spread of the shadow to suit your needs.

For more information on the :focus pseudo-class, refer to the following link: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/:focus
