Notification during image loading

I have successfully integrated the Nivo slider on my website, however, I am encountering a minor issue. Whenever the images are loading, it causes the footer to shift upwards which affects the overall look of the site. Is there a simple solution to add a message or placeholder while the images are loading?

If you need to check out the code, feel free to visit this link and click on any of the projects.

Your assistance with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Answer №1

How about implementing some random styles to be applied temporarily while waiting for the image to load? For example, setting a minimum height and using a background image until the actual image loads.

.nivoSlider img {
    background: url("https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/de/Ajax-loader.gif") no-repeat center center;
    min-height: 300px; /* Adjust as needed */
}

Answer №2

Ensure the content being loaded has a minimum height to avoid overlapping with the footer.

CSS: min-height: 200px;

When it comes to displaying a loading message, there are two effective approaches:

  1. Update the loading message once the images have finished loading using AJAX (consider jQuery load() method)
  2. Show a loading message in the background of the images by applying position: absolute. For example:

Note: Luke's suggestion is also viable, but it's primarily suited for loading images rather than text.
