Navbar with toggle functionality in Bootstrap 4

I am currently in the process of transitioning from Bootstrap 3.x to version 4 and I am encountering some issues with the new navbar. No matter which options for navbar-toggleable-x I select, the navbar always displays the hamburger button as if it is collapsed.

This specific HTML document illustrates the problem I am facing, and I obtained it from the official documentation page.

  <a class="navbar-brand" href="#">Navbar</a>

      </li>

  </div>
</nav>

Answer №1

With the release of Bootstrap 4 beta, the toggleable feature has been replaced by expand.

Now that we have the "expand" breakpoint instead of the "toggle" breakpoint, the logic is adjusted accordingly. For example, navbar-toggleable-md is now navbar-expand-lg.

Visit this link for more information.

<nav class="navbar navbar-expand-lg navbar-light bg-faded">
  <button class="navbar-toggler navbar-toggler-right" type="button" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbarNavDropdown" aria-controls="navbarNavDropdown" aria-expanded="false" aria-label="Toggle navigation">
    <span class="navbar-toggler-icon"></span>
  </button>
  <a class="navbar-brand" href="#">Navbar</a>
  <div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbarNavDropdown">
    <ul class="navbar-nav">
      <li class="nav-item active">
        <a class="nav-link" href="#">Home <span class="sr-only">(current)</span></a>
      </li>
      <li class="nav-item">
        <a class="nav-link" href="#">Features</a>
      </li>
      <li class="nav-item">
        <a class="nav-link" href="#">Pricing</a>
      </li>
      <li class="nav-item dropdown">
        <a class="nav-link dropdown-toggle" href="http://example.com" id="navbarDropdownMenuLink" data-toggle="dropdown" aria-haspopup="true" aria-expanded="false">
          Dropdown link
        </a>
        <div class="dropdown-menu" aria-labelledby="navbarDropdownMenuLink">
          <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Action</a>
          <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Another action</a>
          <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Something else here</a>
        </div>
      </li>
    </ul>
  </div>
</nav>

Click here to view the example in action.

To make the navbar horizontally expand, utilize a navbar-expand* class, as the default version collapses vertically on mobile devices.
