Misunderstandings between HTML and CSS

Can someone please clarify how the functionality of the active-slide class?

Code:

<div class="slider">
<div class="slide active-slide">..</div>
<div class = "slide slide-feature">..</div>
<div class = "slide">..</div>
<div class = "slide">..</div>

The slide class in the CSS has the property display:none, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

<div class="slide active-slide">..</div>

Answer №1

Upon closer inspection, it seems that the slides are set to have a style of display: none if they only possess the slide class. However, when they also have the active-slide class, their display property changes to block (or inline-block, or some other value besides none). This new value is taking precedence over the initial display:none declaration.

.slide {
    display: none; // Hides elements with the class of .slide
}
.slide.active-slide {
    display: block; // Overrides previous display property for elements with both classes
}

Answer №2

The usage of the active-slide class assigns the particular slide to have display: block;, resulting in it being visible to the user.

Initially, all slides are designated with display: none;, causing them to remain hidden. Only the slide that has the active-slide class will be visible.
