Looking to place a <div> element on a new line immediately after the <header> tag?

I experimented with this code and attempted to modify the display properties of the header and div tags. However, I encountered an issue where the image in the next div tag appeared in the top left corner. My goal is to position it on the next line to the right of the header tag (aligned to the right). This pertains to the positioning of div and header tags.

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<title></title>
<meta charset="utf-8" />
<link href="Content/bootstrap.css" rel="stylesheet" />
<link href="Content/bootstrap-theme.css" rel="stylesheet"/>

<style type="text/css">

</style>
</head>
<body style="background-color: #1D1D1D" >

<div id="main" class="">

<header class="site header" role="banner">
    <h1 id="logo" class="pull-right"><a href="/"> Logo of site</a>
    </h1>
</header>

<div id="">
    <div id="" class="">
        <img src="Images/1157217a.jpg?w=1800&fit=max&auto=compress,format&h=1800" width="240" height="312" alt="slideshow image">
     </div>

</div>

</div>

<script src="Scripts/bootstrap.js"></script>
<script src="Scripts/jquery-3.1.0.js"></script>

<script src="Scripts/modernizr-2.8.3.js"></script>
</body>
</html>

Answer №1

If you include the "clearfix" class right after the heading tag, the image will automatically appear on the following line. The clearfix class is a handy feature of Bootstrap that helps with layout alignment.

Answer №2

Just apply a css property display: block; to one of these two elements and you're done. With display: block, the div will automatically take up the full width of the page.

<header class="site header" role="banner">
    <h1 id="logo" class="pull-right"><a href="/"> Site Logo</a>
    </h1>
</header>

<div id="">
    <div id="" class="" style="display:block;">
        <img src="Images/1157217a.jpg?w=1800&fit=max&auto=compress,format&h=1800" width="240" height="312" alt="slideshow image">
     </div>
</div>

You can also utilize bootstrap structural classes like "container" and "row" to easily create a new section above the header.

Answer №3

One way to achieve this is by using the float:left property, illustrated in the following example:

header {
  float:left;
  width:100%;
  background: #c1c1c1; /* styling for header */
  padding:15px;
}
.block-element {
  float:left;
  width:100%;
  background: #ddd; /* styling for div element */
  padding:15px;
  margin-top:30px;
}
<header>
  <!-- content here -->
</header>

<div class="block-element">
  <!-- content here -->
</div>

<div class="block-element">
  <!-- content here -->
</div>
