Issue with Bootstrap 3 collapse menu failing to collapse

Can anyone help me figure out why my website's menu won't collapse when I select a link? I've been doing some research online and it seems like most solutions suggest updating to the latest versions of bootstrap or jQuery. However, I am already using jQuery v2.1.3 and bootstrap v3.3.1, which should be the most recent versions.

No code has been shared yet. To collapse an element, you can try using the .collapse('hide') method. By default, the menu will not collapse. You must include this method to enable collapsing when clicking on the link.

For example, use

$(".navbar-collapse").collapse('hide');
where .navbar-collapse represents the specific element.
