Is there a way to use CSS viewport width units as a percentage of the containing block

One day, I needed a div that could maintain its size ratio and stumbled upon the idea (or maybe it was just a dream) that there was a CSS unit equal to 1% of the containing block width. To my surprise, when I tested it out, it actually worked. I thought it might be called vb, but alas, it was not.

I've scoured the internet in search of this mysterious unit, but it seems like it doesn't actually exist. Am I losing my mind?

Answer №1

Discover the latest additions in Draft CSS Level 4, introducing innovative length units like vi, vb, ic, lh, and rlh.

vi unit

Represents 1% of the size of the initial containing block along the root element's inline axis.

vb unit

Refers to 1% of the size of the initial containing block along the root element's block axis.

For more information, refer to the specifications provided in the link above or visit MDN

Currently, no browsers support these new units.
