Is the background image viewport centered?

I am embarking on a new venture with a website design that is unfamiliar to me, but I have a clear goal in mind...

My design concept involves a single large image measuring 1000px x 1000px as the background, while the actual content fills up only 500px x 500px. The challenge is to ensure that the content stays in a fixed position relative to the background image.

While this may sound straightforward, the real complexity arises when the browser window exceeds the dimensions of my 11-inch screen. In such cases, I would like a simple color to be displayed as a fallback option.

Another concern is maintaining the alignment of the content box in the center at all times, without the scroll bars disrupting the layout unless the browser window is smaller than the content box.

It's hard to put into words the exact nature of what I am attempting to achieve, so I am open to providing further clarification if needed.

Utilize CSS for a dynamic background image:

HTML{
    width:100%;
    height:100%;
    background:#F00 url(path/to/your/image.jpg) center center no-repeat;
    background-attachment: fixed;
    background-size:100% auto;
}

The background property combines background-color, background-image, background-position, and background-repeat in a specific order. Currently, two properties cannot be included in background, despite what the W3C spec may suggest.

background-attachment:fixed functions similarly to position:fixed for layers, ensuring that the image remains visible when the user scrolls. To avoid this effect, wrap a container around your content and apply the declaration mentioned above to it instead of the HTML node.

background-size adjusts the image within the background area. Experiment with different values - the suggested setting will scale the image to fit the width of the viewport. Using 100% 100% will stretch it to cover the entire viewport, while auto 100% will resize it to fit the height of the viewport. When using auto, some clipping may occur or the designated background-color (in this case, red) may become visible on the sides or top and bottom.

Setting the width:100%; height:100% for the HTML node ensures there is no white border at the bottom if the content does not fully fill the screen.
