Is it possible to verify the compatibility of certain at-rules in CSS?

I am in search of a counterpart to @supports specifically for at-rules. I desire the ability to execute:

@supports (@counter-style) {
  things
}

My goal is to achieve this using only CSS/HTML. Can anyone guide me on how to accomplish this task?

Answer №1

Looking ahead, in the distant future:

A recent meeting of the CSS Working Group focused on detecting features for descriptors and reached a consensus on the following resolution:

RESOLVED: Introduce an at-rule function with syntax at-rule(@keyword) or

at-rule(@keyword; descriptor: value)

https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/2463#issuecomment-1016720310

This will allow you to utilize:

@supports at-rule(@foo) {
  /* @foo is supported */
}

However, this functionality is not available currently nor in the near future.
