Is it possible to make a portfolio image fade on hover and reveal a unique icon such as a magnifying glass or

Recently, I've noticed a captivating image hover effect that seems to be gaining popularity. I'm curious if anyone has any tips or suggestions on how to achieve this effect successfully?

What I aim to accomplish is an effect where hovering over an image causes it to fade, while simultaneously revealing a magnifying glass icon or something similar. This serves as a visual prompt for viewers that clicking the image will enlarge it.

If you're interested, here's an example of the effect in action:

Any insights or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

To create a transparency effect on an image, you can utilize the .fadeTo() method.

To implement this effect, position the magnifying glass image below the main photo using CSS and then adjust the opacity of the main image to around 0.4.

$('.hover_fade').hover(
  function() {
    $(this).fadeTo("slow", 0.4);
  },
  function() {
    $(this).fadeTo("slow", 1);
  }
);

The first function triggers when hovering over an element with the class hover_fade, while the second function is executed when the mouse moves away from the element.
