To achieve the effect of allowing mouse clicks to pass through elements, consider utilizing the pointer-events
CSS property. This works in Firefox and Chrome/Safari, enabling seamless interaction with underlying elements. In browsers where this behavior is not supported, you may need to implement a custom solution to detect and pass through the clicks.
Consider implementing the z-index property in CSS to control the stacking order of div elements.
For instance, a div with a shadow underneath could have a higher z-index value than a div placed on top of it.
Have you considered making the text background color semi-transparent instead?
Check out this jsFiddle example for reference.
If you provide some of your source code, it would be easier to understand the functionality you are seeking.
