Increased space between the sidebar and the top bar

Currently, my code is a bit messy as I am still in the learning stages of bootstrap.

I need some assistance on how to resolve the empty space that exists between the top and side bar elements.

<html lang="en">

        <style type="text/css">
.navbar-brand>img {
   max-height: 100%;
   height: 100%;
   width: auto;
   margin: 0 auto;

   /* probably not needed anymore, but doesn't hurt */
   -o-object-fit: contain;
   object-fit: contain;

}
</style>

Answer №1

Did you customize the CSS for this layout, or are you just using the default Bootstrap styles?

If it's the latter, you can access the Bootstrap CSS file and look for classes related to the navbar and sidebar. Pay attention to the positioning and margins defined in these classes.

The navbar is usually set to have a 'fixed' position, meaning it stays at the top of the page even when scrolling.

For the sidebar, you may want it to scroll along with the rest of the content on the page. Make sure the top margin of the sidebar div is set to 0 and consider setting the position of the sidebar-wrapper div to 'absolute'. You can add the following code:

left: 0;

If this doesn't work (depending on the structure of your HTML), you can also try adding the following:

top: [height of navbar in pixels];

Answer №2

To remove the default 20px margin from the bottom of the .navbar, simply add this CSS code:

.navbar.navbar-default {
  margin-bottom: 0;
}

For a demonstration, refer to the working Snippet below.

$("#menu-toggle").click(function(e) {
  e.preventDefault();
  $("#wrapper").toggleClass("toggled");
});
.navbar.navbar-default {
  margin-bottom: 0;
}
.navbar-brand>img {
  max-height: 100%;
  height: 100%;
  width: auto;
  margin: 0 auto;
  -o-object-fit: contain;
  object-fit: contain;
}
#wrapper {
  padding-left: 0;
  -webkit-transition: all 0.5s ease;
  -moz-transition: all 0.5s ease;
  -o-transition: all 0.5s ease;
  transition: all 0.5s ease;
}
