How to link an external CSS file to a Vue.js project

I created a new project using @vue/cli and now I want to add an external CSS file to my App.vue

Here's what I attempted:

<template>
  <div id="app">
    <div id="nav">
      <router-link to="/">Home</router-link> |
      <router-link to="/about">About</router-link>
    </div>
    <router-view/>
  </div>
</template>

<style>
@import url("../assets/css/bootstrap.min.css");
@import url("../assets/css/panel-rescue.css");
@import url("../assets/css/animate.css");
</style>

However, when I run npm run serve, the following error message appears:

 ERROR Failed to compile with 3 errors 2:06:05 PM

To install them, you can run: npm install --save -!../node_modules/css-loader/dist/cjs.js??ref--6-oneOf-1-1!../node_modules/vue-loader/lib/loaders/stylePostLoader.js!../node_modules/postcss-loader/src/index.js??ref--6-oneOf-1-2!../assets/css/animate.css -!../node_modules/css-loader/dist/cjs.js??ref--6-oneOf-1-1!../node_modules/vue-loader/lib/loaders/stylePostLoader.js!../node_modules/postcss-loader/src/index.js??ref--6-oneOf-1-2!../assets/css/bootstrap.min.css -!../node_modules/css-loader/dist/cjs.js??ref--6-oneOf-1-1!../node_modules/vue-loader/lib/loaders/stylePostLoader.js!../node_modules/postcss-loader/src/index.js??ref--6-oneOf-1-2!../assets/css/panel-rescue.css

Subsequently, I installed css-loader using npm install -D css-loader and tried various approaches to set it up in the app through webpack.config.js and vue.config.js, but each attempt failed.

After exploring the documentation for Vue.js and css-loader, I am feeling overwhelmed.

Edit resolved:

@import url("../assets/css/bootstrap.min.css");
with
@import url("./assets/css/bootstrap.min.css");

Answer №1

Here's my solution:

@import url("../assets/css/bootstrap.min.css");

I simply changed it to:

@import url("./assets/css/bootstrap.min.css");

By replacing the double ., I was able to navigate one level up in the folder structure.

Answer №2

If you want to give it a shot, consider utilizing the following method :

<style lang="sass">
  @import "@/directory/document.css";
</style>

The symbol @ serves as a substitute for /source.
