Exploring the Possibilities of Manipulating HTML Tables with CSS

Looking for a solution to rearrange the layout of a html table with 2 cells in a row? Want to make the second cell appear below the first one instead of next to it using only CSS? It may require a bit of a "dirty hack", but the desired outcome is still necessary.

Answer №1

transform the presentation to block tr td{ display:block; }

Answer №2

To ensure compatibility with Internet Explorer, include the following in the cell style:

float:left;
clear:both;

Answer №3

Cascading Style Sheets:

table{
    width: 100px;
}
.block{
    border: 1px solid black;
    display: block;
    width: 100px
}

HyperText Markup Language:

<table>
    <tr>
        <td class="block">
            First Cell
        </td>
        <td class="block">
            Second Cell
        </td>
    </tr>
</table>

Give it a shot: http://jsfiddle.net/LKFC5/1/

If feasible, consider adjusting the HTML code instead of using CSS trickery :)

Answer №4

Modifying individual table rows without affecting the entire table is not feasible.

To target specific table cells, you can change their display property to block:

#your-table-id, #your-table-id tr, #your-table-id td {
  display: block;
}

You may attempt this approach with a single row, but it's likely that those cells will be rendered after the rest of the table.

Edit: Surprisingly, it does work with just one row: http://jsfiddle.net/JzkLZ/

Keep in mind that this method is not compatible with IE6.

What does your code look like?
