Customizing checkbox appearance without including a label

After following a tutorial on how to style checkboxes found here, I was able to create a custom styled checkbox.

However, I noticed that when I removed the label from the checkbox, it disappeared and was no longer visible.

Is there a way to display the checkbox without including any text in the label?

Answer №1

If you look through the CSS code, you will notice

input[type=checkbox]:not(old):checked + label
appearing frequently. Removing label will render the CSS ineffective. You can either adjust your CSS or keep the label empty like this -
<label for="XYZ"></label>
.

UPDATE

To fix this issue, simply include the following properties: min-width and height:

input[type=checkbox]:not(old) + label,
input[type=radio   ]:not(old) + label{
  height: 45px;
  min-width: 45px;
}

Answer №2

To style a checkbox using input only, you can utilize the appearance property. Keep in mind that this method may not work on Internet Explorer.

input[type="checkbox"] {
  -webkit-appearance: none;
  -moz-appearance: none;
  box-sizing: borer-box;
  width: 100px;
  height: 30px;
  cursor: pointer;
  background: url(//dummyimage.com/100x30/000/ffffff&text=click+me);
}
input[type="checkbox"]:checked {
  background: url(//dummyimage.com/100x30/0e7d0e/ffffff&text=checked);
}
