Creating a clickable image map for the footer

I have successfully made a navigation bar fixed to the bottom right of the page. However, when I attempted to create an image map out of it in Dreamweaver, the image did not appear for me to draw around. I considered doing it manually, but then questioned whether this approach would even work because the image is constantly moving, making it difficult to establish coordinates on it. How can I convert my image into clickable buttons that are functional?

Answer №1

If Dreamweaver isn't working for you, consider using a web application like this one:

I haven't personally tried it, but it seems that you upload an image, the platform assists you in defining areas, and then you can retrieve the code once you're finished.

Answer №2

If you're having trouble mapping the image, consider using position: relative; for the container and then utilizing <a> with the following styles:

a {
   display: block;
   height: 30px; /* Adjust as needed */
   width: 30px; /* Adjust as needed */
   position: absolute;
   /* Customize top, bottom, left, right according to your needs */
}

As a tip, include border: 1px solid #f00; temporarily to ensure your <a> encompasses the intended target, which can be removed later.

You can also utilize :nth-of-type for <a> elements so that you don't have to assign classes to each individual <a> element.
