Could the characters in an input field be colored alternately?

Have you ever wondered if it's possible to alternate the color of each character in an input field? For example, switching between red, green, and blue for each character. I've seen people achieve this by dynamically wrapping characters in a span, but I'm stuck on how to implement it myself. Any ideas?

Answer №1

To create a simulation, one option is to utilize a DIV element with the contentEditable attribute enabled and styled as an input box.

When typing into the DIV, you can capture events like "onkeydown" to wrap each character in a SPAN with a specified color before appending it to the DIV.

This technique allows for dynamic color changes on characters in the "input" field as they are typed.

Handling tasks like paste and delete operations can make the process more complex, but the principle remains the same.
