Continue duplicating image to stretch header across entire screen

Looking to create a seamless connection between a Header image (2300x328px) and another image (456x328px) so that the header fills the entire width available without overlapping due to a pattern. I need the second image to extend the header to the left and right, maintaining continuity with the pattern present. For reference, please see this image: https://i.sstatic.net/bVzIh.jpg. The circles in the image represent the pattern preventing overlap, and the images extending the header can be repeated infinitely.

Answer №1

To achieve perfect alignment of the pattern, it is essential to match the background pattern with the header image (e.g., center, left, etc.) and ensure that the pattern starts at the correct location.

For a visual demonstration of what I mean, you can refer to this fiddle: http://example.com/fiddle123

.header {
    background:url(http://i.imgur.com/example.jpg) repeat-x center;
}

.header img {
    display:block;
   margin:0px auto;
}

Answer №2

To create a repeating background on both sides, you need to add repeat-x to the div elements. I've provided an example for you using jsFiddle.

Html:

<div id="header">
    <div class="extend"></div>
    <div id="logo"></div>
    <div class="extend"></div>
</div>

CSS:

#header {
   display: inline-block;
   border: 1px solid black;
}
#header div {
    display: inline-block;
}
.extend {
    background-image: url('http://example.com/image.jpg');
    height: 60px;
    width: 100px;
    background-repeat: repeat-x;
}
#logo {
    background-image: url('http://example.com/logo.png');
    width: 64px;
    height: 64px;
}

Answer №3

// coding example

<div id="banner" style="height: 150px;"></div>

// styling

#banner {
    background: url(images/preloader-w8-pulse-black.gif) repeat-x;
}
