Can the site be shown in the background?

I have a unique idea for a games website that I want to share. It's a bit difficult to explain, so please bear with me as I try to convey my vision!

The inspiration for this project comes from a website called . Have you seen it before? The concept is simple - you type in a link like www.google.com and it generates a fun version of the website with Nyan Cat running across the screen.

My twist on this idea involves creating a Facebook-like popup that overlays existing websites, such as Google, without opening a new tab or browser window. This custom popup will house the games website that I plan to develop. I've successfully implemented similar features in the past, so I know it's feasible.

My main question is: how can I achieve this overlay effect on any website, similar to nyanit.com but with my own custom popup? I want users to be able to enter any website they choose and experience the games website within the overlay.

Edit: Please keep your suggestions IE compatible if possible :)

Answer №1

If you're looking for a way to display your game content effectively, consider using an iframe that takes up the full screen and loads the website you desire. Then, place your game elements in containers with a higher z-index.

Answer №2

To achieve this, consider utilizing another div element that covers 100% of the body's height and width with position:absolute; set its display to none initially. Upon triggering the event, increase the z-index of the div and change its display to block. Then populate the div with the desired content using innerHTML. This method could potentially address your question.

Wishing you success!
