An unusual icon with three varying sizes in a single file

I have come across an interesting favicon file.

Click here to download the favicon file

Unfortunately, I am unable to upload this image file as it does not meet the required format standards.

Upon viewing the file in Windows 7, a fascinating discovery was made.

This remarkable file contains the same image at various sizes. The first page depicts one size out of the three available.

The subsequent page reveals the same image at a smaller scale.

Followed by the third page displaying the image at an even smaller size.

My curiosity is piqued - how is this feat possible? How can I create a single file with multiple versions of the same image?

This particular favicon showcases dimensions of 48px X 48px. As favicons are commonly used in web design and development, HTML and CSS tags have been employed accordingly.

This feature allows icons to be displayed at various resolutions, making them versatile for different use cases. Favicon - HTML5 recommendation for icons in multiple sizes

In accordance with the HTML5 specification, it's recommended to provide icons in multiple sizes by using specific attributes within a link tag. Different icon formats, such as Microsoft's .ico and Macintosh's .icns files, can be included using content type declarations within the link tag.

To create such a file, you'll need a program that supports editing .ico files and offers this feature. For detailed instructions on how to make or obtain a multi-size .ico file, refer to theHow to make/get a multi size .ico file? thread on Stack Overflow.
