Adjusting the height of the navigation bar in BootStrap

I'm having trouble resizing the height of the navbar-default in this Bootstrap sample. It seems to be too big for my needs. Are there any Bootstrap classes I can use to adjust the height?

For example:

<form class="navbar-form navbar-left" role="search">
  <div class="form-group">
    <input type="text" class="form-control" placeholder="Search"></div>
  <button type="submit" class="btn btn-default">Submit</button>
</form>

Answer №1

If you're using Bootstrap, by default the form-control class comes with a set height and padding. I recommend overriding these styles with your own preferences for textbox and button styles.

.someclass {
   height: auto !important;
   padding: 5px; //adjust as needed
}

or

.someclass {
   height: 20px !important; //adjust as needed
}

Check out an example here

I hope this information is useful to you.

Answer №2

Have you tried placing the same content within a or tag? These elements will directly inherit the attributes and classes applied to them. Here is an example:

<header class="navbar navbar-inverse navbar-fixed-top bs-docs-nav" role="banner">
<form class="navbar-form navbar-left" role="search>
<div class="form-group">
<input type="text" class="form-control" placeholder="Search">
</div>
<button type="submit" class="btn btn-default">Submit</button>
</form>
