Why is having <html lang="en"> essential?

Is the tag essential for website development? Will my code be impacted if I choose not to include it?

Answer №1

Accessibility is the main reason for this, not just coding. It's primarily utilized for translation purposes by a "bot".

If you want it to be spot on, then make sure to use <html lang="en-US"> or the appropriate country code for your language (such as mine being fr-FR and not fr-CA because there are differences between these two languages).
