"Why does adding a new span create space between it and the previous ones, and what can be done to prevent this from

Essentially, it creates the equation "a + b = c". However, I need to create "a + b = c" instead.

HTML:

<div class="container">
   <span id="b__value">+b</span>
   <span id="c__value">=c</span>
</div>

JS:

const valueContainer = document.getElementsByClassName('timer__value')[0];
let newSpan = document.createElement('span');

newSpan.id = 'testId';
newSpan.innerHTML += "77";
valueContainer.insertBefore(newSpan, valueContainer.firstChild);

Answer №1

Typically, When Inline Elements in HTML are placed on separate lines, they will appear on the page with a space between them. To achieve the desired output, make sure to have both elements on the same line rather than on separate lines.

<div class="container">
   <span id="b__value">+b</span><span id="c__value">=c</span>
</div>
