What is the source of the width for this expansive dropdown menu?

I can't seem to crack this puzzle. When you navigate to the following link: click here, and select 'Accordian' from the topbar menu, where exactly does the dropdown menu width originate from? Upon inspecting it, I only see a computed value which leaves me wondering its source. Is it possible that this width is determined by JavaScript? It doesn't appear to be influenced by the child elements.

Cheers,

Starting at this point:

 .yamm .dropdown.yamm-fullwidth .dropdown-menu {
   width: 100%;
   left: 0;
   right: 0;
 }
 @media (max-width: 969px) {
   .yamm .dropdown.yamm-fullwidth .dropdown-menu {
     width: auto;
   }
   .yamm .yamm-content {
     padding-left: 0;
          padding-right: 0;
   }
   .yamm .dropdown-menu > li > ul {
     display: block;
   }
 }

Refer to this customized file.

Are you familiar with bootstrap? It's a very dynamic and responsive template, adjusting its width based on your screen size ;)

If you'd like to learn more about how it works, check out the official documentation for bootstrap HERE

I believe there are specific min-width and max-width settings in there somewhere...

Answer №3

It appears different from this angle.

.dropdown-menu {
    background-clip: padding-box;
    background-color: #FFFFFF;
    border: 1px solid rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.2);
    border-radius: 6px;
    box-shadow: 0 5px 10px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.2);
    display: none;
    float: left;
    left: 0;
    list-style: none outside none;
    margin: 2px 0 0;
    min-width: 160px;
    padding: 5px 0;
    position: absolute;
    top: 100%;
    z-index: 1000;
}

Use firebug to insert a new line for testing purposes like

width:100px

or any value and observe the decrease in width.

Answer №4

Utilizing fluid widths based on the Bootstrap default settings.

By standard, any element with the .row-fluid class will automatically have a width of 100% (similar to using span12).

The accordion class is given a span6, resulting in it occupying half of the dropdown menu's space (excluding padding/margins). This setup creates two columns within the dropdown, and setting a left margin of auto ensures that the megamenu dropdown only appears below and aligned with its parent menu item.
