What is the significance of ' */ ' in CSS coding?

I'm unsure if this question is valid, but I have not been able to find answers anywhere. In my code, when using margin-top: -17px; */ and margin-top: -17px;, I notice different results. What does the symbol */ mean and are there other similar symbols like it?

Answer №1

To add comment sections using CSS and JS, you can use the syntax /* comment */

Learn more about CSS comments here

It appears that someone accidentally left part of a commented line in the code.

Answer №2

In CSS, using */ as the closing comment can lead to unexpected outcomes. For example, with margin-top: -17;*/, the style will not be applied correctly. To ensure proper rendering, use margin-top: -17; instead.

Answer №3

This is a note regarding CSS. It's important to incorporate it to enhance the functionality and readability of the code. For instance

/* reducing margin */
margin-top: -17px;

If you choose to duplicate code

/* add some lines here
margin-top: -17px */

You have applied it incorrectly

Answer №4

In our CSS code, we make use of the following syntax to include comments:

/* This is a comment */
