What is the best way to conceal part of a chart or a div in Angular?

I have a large chart that I need to showcase on my website, but due to its size it would take up too much vertical space and potentially overwhelm the user upon their first visit.

My goal is to provide a preview of the chart, similar to an excerpt of text, so that it doesn't dominate the page. Users can then click on it to view the full chart on a separate page.

How can I effectively hide the bottom portion of the chart while still maintaining its visibility?

Please refer to the attached image for a visual representation of the desired outcome.

Answer №1

The simplest way to hide the lower part of the div container is by adjusting its height using CSS.
You can achieve this effect with the following code snippet:

.excerpt {
  position: relative;
  height: 100px;
  border: 1px solid gray;
  overflow: hidden;
}

To give users a hint that there is more content below, you can also add a bottom shadow:

.excerpt::after {
  content: "";
  position: absolute;
  bottom: 0;
  width: 100%;
  height: 20px;
  background: linear-gradient(to top, gray, transparent);
}

Once you have implemented this, you can use Angular router for navigation to a new page displaying the full chart or create a click event to expand the div's height to 100%. For further details, you can check out this demo: link
