What are some ways to implement drop-down functionality using CSS?

I've been working on tweaking the CSS of this website for what feels like an eternity. I just can't seem to figure out how to make the "medical" menu item drop down to display the rest of the hidden menu items. I've managed to unhide and expand them, but the drop-down feature is eluding me. What specific changes do I need to make? I've tried following tutorials, but maybe I didn't target the right elements? Could editing a theme be causing some interference perhaps? I would greatly appreciate it if you could take a look at the CSS below and provide some recommendations for changes.

Thank you!

Give this a shot:

.expanded a:hover + ul,
.expanded ul:hover {display:block !important;z-index:99999;}
.menu ul{position:absolute;}
.menu li{float:left}
.menu .menu a{width:100px}

Your website has a lot of complex css @imports, which can make debugging difficult. The use of the ! important rule was essential in this case.

It's crucial to set a specific width for your dropdown links, in this example, I chose 100px.

I hope this solution helps. I hesitated to respond at first, as I noticed others suggesting Suckerfish, but I understand that you prefer to work on this independently.

EDIT: You may need to adjust this code or consider implementing JavaScript if you want to ensure compatibility with IE6 and 7.

EDIT: I have revisited the code and made some adjustments to simplify it. The previous version was overly complicated.
